“Why should I be grateful? The economy is bad, I lost my job, my relationship is on the verge of collapse and I have a cold!”
“Life sucks.” “Life is hard.” “It shouldn’t be this way!”
Does this sound familiar? Do you talk this way? Do you think this way?Do you hold this vision of the world?
No matter what is happening in your life today, there is always something that you can find to appreciate – to be grateful for.
“WHY should I be grateful? Everything is falling apart around me!!”
That little voice inside just pops up the same way a jack in the box leaps when you push the button. The problem is, that little voice will create even more problems if you let it run wild.
One might say being grateful is the ‘right thing to do’ but more important than that, expressing an attitude of gratitude has a HUGE impact on what shows up in your life.
Is the glass half empty, or half full? Or both?
No matter what is happening in your life, you can find something to be grateful for. Are you reading this text? Then you can see. Imagine what your life would be like, if you did not have eyesight. Not everyone has the fortune of experiencing this wonderful gift.
Stop now for one minute, and imagine what you do in a typical day. Then imagine going through the same typical day, without sight. You might begin to appreciate your gift of sight even more.
Appreciate. The way a house or car or a good investment can ‘appreciate’ , means the value increases. A GOOD INVESTMENT will appreciate. It goes up in value. That is what gratitude will do for your life. You are investing in your Self.
Any metaphysical teacher will explain how BE-ING grateful will attract more abundance into your life. And from a subconscious point of view, it makes sense. Every thought you have becomes a ‘suggestion’ to your unconscious mind. If you fill your unconscious with thoughts of lack, deprivation, or life being hard, your unconscious may accept those suggestions, and create behaviors that bring those ideas into reality.
As you express thoughts and ideas of appreciation, of value, of life being good, of experiencing abundance, you attract MORE of that into your life.
Some would explain this as the law of attraction. I explain this to my clients as one form of ‘self hypnosis’. It is all one and the same.
By thinking these thoughts, you send ‘suggestions’ to your subconscious mind, which does automatically determine your habits and behaviors. Do you want these behaviors to lead you to joy, happiness and prosperity? Then be grateful.
Of course, I understand, when life is hard, this may seem difficult to do.
